John Travolta's 'Gotti' movie release date pulled after losing distributor

John Travolta's 'Gotti' movie release date pulled after losing distributor

John Travolta denies Lionsgate sent "Gotti" to sleep with the fishes, 10 days before its scheduled release.

To recap, Gotti was set to hit theaters on December 15, which is why yesterday's report that distributor Lionsgate had opted to sell the film back to its producers caught so many off guard. "Unfortunately, the reports were speculation bordering on fake news,"he said. I invited his group, they saw it and bought it", Travolta said".

Shortly after the news broke, Travolta released a statement to Deadline saying that the original news was overblown and that he sought out a new financier to give the film a wider platform when Lionsgate only committed to a limited release. Except, it appears as it wasn't that good after all as the studio, Lionsgate has dropped it from their release slate completely m - only a few weeks away from the films actual planned release date. "We didn't anticipate this speculation that is so grossly wrong" - that his film would "sleep with the fishes".

Travolta explained that he was able to find Ed Walson, producer of five Broadway plays and eight films, including the Woody Allen-directed flicks "Café Society" and the upcoming "Wonder Wheel".

The crime-drama covers the life of the infamous leader of the Gambino crime family.

Industry experts say these types of situations don't happen very often. The producer noted, "This is a big movie-star film, with a multi-dimensional, iconic character portrayed by one of the great multi-talented actors".

John Gotti arrives at court in New York City on February 8, 1990.

Walson has said that he's planning on taking the film to Cannes, and then securing a wide release for the film after that - so who knows, really?

Travolta and Fiore Films were some of the constants as the film become a realization.

"It's a supreme piece of work I thought deserves proper recognition".

Lionsgate did not immediately respond to Fox News' request for comment on why it chose to withdraw its support for the film.
