Pakistan rejects United States demand for joint operation on its soil

Pakistan rejects United States demand for joint operation on its soil

This was concluded at the 206th Corps Commanders ' Conference held in Rawalpindi with army chief General Qamar Javed Bajwa in the chair.

Speaking to the BBC Urdu on Mattis' trip, Asif said the Pakistan government raised the matter of India's future role under Trump administration's new policy for Afghanistan and the region with U.S. officials in Islamabad on Monday. We are still suffering very badly from the Afghan war.

A Pakistani official privy of the development has told the local newspaper, Pakistan Today, that Islamabad would only guarantee no attacks from its soil if the U.S. special forces erect a fence along Pakistan-Afghan borders and also repatriates all the Afghan migrants.

He added that in his long association with Pakistan, he was aware of the sacrifices rendered and lives lost in Pakistan's fight against terrorism.

They chose to continue efforts for Afghan peace.

"We have communicated specific steps that Pakistan can take to degrade these groups' operational activities and to facilitate substantive peace talks between the Taliban and the government of Afghanistan", a State Department spokesperson told The News in an email response from Washington. "We are not ready to be blamed for the failure of the USA in Afghanistan anymore", the official said.

When asked if he would "prod" Islamabad to take more action, he replied: "That's not the way I deal with issues".

Stressing on a need to develop correct ties, Ais said "We have to convert our diplomatic outpost to trade outpost", adding that the United States has been one of the major trade partners of Pakistan, Dawn News reported.

But Mattis's comments were in contrast to more strident language from the Central Intelligence Agency chief at a security forum last weekend. "We have eliminated safe havens from Pakistan's soil but are prepared to look into the possibility of miscreants exploiting Pakistan's hospitality to the Afghan Refugees to the detriment of our Afghan brothers", it said.

Refusing the concerns of neighbouring countries, he said that the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) was a game changer project, which will benefit the entire region. His fierce criticism sparked anti-US protests in Islamabad.
