'Jeopardy!' on hiatus after host Alex Trebek has brain surgery

'Jeopardy!' on hiatus after host Alex Trebek has brain surgery

The production of long-running TV game show Jeopardy! will be on hiatus after its host Alex Trebek is recovering from surgery.

On Thursday, the Canadian-born host appeared in a video on the "Jeopardy" Facebook page Thursday to announce that he'd had the surgery during the show's holiday break. Trebek said, "I want to thank all of you for your concern".

Though Jeopardy!'s taping schedule shifts from year to year, the show was originally set to start taping its College Championship next week.

He explained that he suffered the subdural hematoma, or blood clots on the brain after the injury about two months ago. He underwent surgery to remove a subdural hematoma on December 16 and spent Christmas at home with his family, the statement said.

Trebek himself echoed those sentiments in a video filmed in his home, calling the incident a "slight medical problem" and assuring fans that he would be back in the studio soon.

The syndicated program "Jeopardy" is viewed by 23 million people each week, making it the top-rated quiz show on USA television.
