Man charged with terrorism for stopping of Amtrak train

Man charged with terrorism for stopping of Amtrak train

The incident occurred overnight as the train traveled through Nebraska during the third weekend of October, according to law enforcement officials. 'We could smell something burning and I'm going to guess that was the brakes'.

While he's had a history of drug use and mental problems, Wilson was deemed competent and released on bail after being hit with criminal mischief and weapons possession charges, but in recently-unsealed court documents, it was said that Wilson was hit with the terrorism charges at a hearing on December 28 after a federal investigation was completed. Court documents say a Furnas County deputy sent to the scene found Amtrak employees holding Wilson. A speedloader enables rapid reloading of bullets.

In the newly unsealed federal case, Czaplewski wrote that investigators had found videos and PDF files on Wilson's phone of a white supremacist banner over a highway, other alt-right postings and documents related to how to kill people.

The Missouri man, Taylor Michael Wilson, was said to have had a loaded.38 caliber handgun on his person (with ammunition), a knife, a hammer, and a respirator mask in his backpack.

In an affidavit attached to the criminal complaint, FBI Special Agent Monte Czaplewski said there was probable cause to believe that electronic devices possessed by Wilson and firearms owned by him "have been used for or obtained in anticipation of engaging in or planning to engage in criminal offenses against the United States".

As the FBI began investigating Wilson, they say they found that he had attended an August white supremacist rally in Charlottesville, Va.

In April 2016, a black woman reported a man in a green SUV pointed a handgun at her for no apparent reason while she was driving on eastbound Interstate 70. The license plate of the man's vehicle tracked back to Wilson. At his home, they found 15 firearms, a tactical vest and large stocks of ammunition.

During their search, the Federal Bureau of Investigation found the well-hidden compartment behind the fridge, and uncovered a trove of weapons and related items, including: "a tactical vest, 11 AR-15 ammunition magazines with approximately 190 rounds of ammunition, one drum-style ammunition magazine for a rifle, 100 rounds of 9mm ammo, white supremacy documents and paperwork, several additional handgun and rifle magazines, gunpowder, ammunition reloading supplies, and a pressure plate", according to the affidavit reviewed by 1011 Now. At the time of the incident, Wilson was charged in district court with use of a weapon to commit a felony and criminal mischief, NTV reports.

Shortly after his arrest, his attorney requested a competency hearing, saying that Wilson "cannot appreciate ... the charges against him ... due to the fact that his mental health issues are now untreated". He later was found competent to proceed, according to court records.
