ABC Pulls "The Mayor"

ABC Pulls

"The Mayor" had been set to make its return from midseason hiatus January 9.

ABC has vetoed future broadcasts of The Mayor. It wasn't extended beyond its initial 13-episode order, although the network did ask for a few backup scripts.

The Mayor followed an aspiring rapper (Hall) who becomes mayor of his hometown after entering into an election as part of a publicity stunt.

Until then, the time slot (Tuesday at 9:30 p.m.) will be filled by Modern Family repeats. Executive producers for the series are Daveed Diggs, Jeremy Bronson, Jamie Tarses, and James Griffiths. The show has aired nine of its thirteen produced episodes.

The Mayor was paired with Black-ish on ABC's Tuesday comedy lineup. The cast also includes Lea Michele, Yvette Nicole Brown, Bernard David Jones and Marcel Spears.

Despite an order for three back-up scripts, the network has chose to cancel the political comedy, which tells the story of an idealistic young rapper (Brandon Michael Hall) who runs for mayor in his town and wins.

The Mayor was ABC's only comedy to premiere this fall, but on the bench remains the Roseanne revival, the family comedy Splitting Up Together and Zach Braff's new show, Alex, Inc.
