José Mourinho fires back at Antonio Conte after criticism

Prosecutors had requested a six-month suspended sentence following accusations he failed to report episodes of match-fixing while in charge at Serie B side Siena in 2011. Then I asked a real trial by court and then they declared my innocence.

"Yes, I will make less but I think I will still make a few".

'Mourinho is this. You know him very well.

"I think that we all know him very well from the past but he is always the same".

"He was a little man in the past, he is a little man in the present and he will be in the future". But the person is this, Mourinho is this.

'But I know him very well in the past. The level is very low.

The Italian was even interpreted as suggesting that the United manager may be suffering from "dementia" after Mourinho had made a reference, 24 hours earlier, to his own behaviour and the fact that he no longer acts "like a clown".

Mourinho hit back brutally that night by referencing Conte's four-month ban in 2012-13 for failing to report match fixing - Conte was cleared of all wrongdoing in 2016 - but any notions that the row might fizzle out were rapidly dispelled after Chelsea's 0-0 FA Cup draw at Norwich.

Asked if he is annoyed by Mourinho's comments, Conte replied: 'No, but this is his way, it's not a surprise for me, when you insult or offend another person you're a little man, and I think he's a little man. Honestly. I don't blame him.

"When you become to be older, there is this type of risk". He is a complete player, but at the same time he is very young and he has just started his career and now, I repeat, if he signs for the club and has this great opportunity to play in a great club with ambition and great targets and also to put yourself in this new challenge. For [everyone]. The problem is if you show this.

The 48-year-old Italian went further, questioning Mourinho's show of solidarity to Claudio Ranieri following the Italian's sacking by Leicester City in 2017, when he wore the initials "CR" on his shirt.

When quizzed on why he believes other managers target him, Conte said he can not pin-point a reason - but fired a warning that he will not take it lying down. You are a fake. It doesn't change your opinion to be more sympathetic.

'If you want to fight a person, you try to kill this person. And then after two years you try to help this person, because maybe it's good for you, for your profile'.
