Kyrgios brushes off injury concerns for Australian Open

Kyrgios brushes off injury concerns for Australian Open

Kyrgios is the first Australian into the Brisbane International final since Lleyton Hewitt won the 2014 crown when he beat Roger Federer.

World number 21 Kyrgios overcame another slow start to knock off Dimitrov for his first win over the Bulgarian and book his seventh overall career ATP World tour final berth.

Speaking afterwards, Kyrgios hinted that the injury could keep him out of the first Open of the year.

"That rule should be changed ... it's getting worse, " Kyrgios told Armstrong, evenly but with exasperation. "From then on, I felt pretty in control of the match".

The top seed broke in the sixth game to win the first set in 30 minutes.

"It's in the rule book right now that he can just leave the court for nearly 10 minutes".

Like Kyrgios, Peers says a Davis Cup breakthrough isn't out of question.

"What's reasonable? It's not reasonable, " Kyrgios said.

De Minaur, ranked 208 in the world, lost 4-6, 7-6 (7-5), 6-4 to the 47th-ranked Harrison to miss out on a match-up with Kyrgios in what would have been his first ATP World Tour final.

A forehand error by Dimitrov, who made the Australian Open semi-finals previous year, gifted Kyrgios the break in the seventh game of the third and the Canberran did not look back.

Kyrgios will parade the Brisbane International trophy in Brisbane on Monday before heading to Sydney to play in the Fast4 exhibition tournament alongside Hewitt.

He cracked at 3-3 in the third set and was broken, and the way Kyrgios was serving, the match was as good as over.

Kyrgios staved off five break points in the first set, including three in his third service game as the American Harrison made a terrific fist of dealing with the booming delivery of his opponent.

"I've got such great support here".

"My knee is sore, but it's good enough to play", he said of the taping over his left knee.

He had come from a set down to win each of his previous three matches, but took less time to hit his stride on Sunday, holding firm in the face of early pressure from Harrison before turning on the style.
