2 planes collide on the ground at Toronto's airport

Two passenger jets collided at Pearson International Airport in Toronto on Saturday, creating a fireball that sent passengers scrambling before they were evacuated on emergency slides.

"There was an audible crunch, and the plane rocked slightly", said passenger Gustavo Lobo to the Canadian Broadcasting Company (CBC).

WestJet says 168 passengers and six crew members were on the flight, all of whom were got to safety by sliding down the emergency chutes.

Amateur video footage of the incident was shot by a passenger on board the Westjet plane. The video shows flames coming from one of the planes.

Although no injuries were reported from the passengers, a Toronto Pearson Fire and Emergency Service personnel was reportedly injured and had to be taken to the hospital. "We regret this incident and are cooperating fully with the Transportation Safety Board of Canada's investigation", a spokesperson told CBC.

"People screaming and panicking all while the flight attendants shouted to try to control the situation".

Sunwing, part of the privately held Sunwing Travel Group, said there were no passengers or crew onboard its plane at the time of the collision, and that the aircraft was being towed by ground handler Swissport International Ltd.

He further added, "We looked out the window and saw that the plane had backed up into us".

The collision happened around 6:15 p.m. when an empty Sunwing aircraft being towed hit a WestJet plane that had just arrived at Terminal 3 from Cancun and was waiting to park.

'Emergency crews were on hand and responded immediately, ' Westjet said in a statement. The incident caused "serious" damage but no causalities.

Westjet has confirmed that all the passengers and crew were evacuated safely.
