Suspects in death of 4-year-old MI girl captured in Georgia

Suspects in death of 4-year-old MI girl captured in Georgia

The U.S. Marshal Service recently announced a $5,000 reward to anyone who aided in the direct arrest of Fields and Diaz, who were wanted in the death of a 4-year-old girl, police say.

Diaz, 24, and Fields, 28, are suspected in the death of her 4-year-old daughter Gabby Barrett.

"Upon arrival, CPR was being administered by family members and officers found the child suffering from severe burns about her extremities", according to a news release. The Washtenaw County Medical Examiner's Office ruled the girl's death a homicide two days later.

A manhunt is underway for Diaz and Fields, and they are believed to be driving a black 2002 Chevy Cavalier bearing MI license plate DTR 1854, pictured below.

And now, Wayne County prosecutors have accused the girl's mother, 24-year-old Candice Diaz, and the mother's boyfriend, 28-year-old Brad Fields, of torturing and killing the girl, local police announced January 8. The police have urged the people to call the U.S. Marshal Detroit Fugitive Apprehension team at 313-234-5656 or the Sumpter Township Police at 734-461-4833 ext. Gabrielle was taken to the hospital, where she died.

Police say the home where she was found was full of animal waste and contained drugs and guns.

The man involved in the incident was arrested and charged with domestic violence.

"She didn't have to pass the way she did, but I hope we get justice for her really soon", Barrett said. "I know we may not have a lot of information at all, but, it just hurts", said Barrett. She pleaded guilty to weapons charges and received probation.

A GoFundMe page initially set up to help her family bury her has since been removed, but a second one has been established.

Police records paint a chaotic picture of life inside the couple's home, where Fields was accused in 2016 of assaulting Diaz, shooting her dog and shooting himself.
