Twitter trolls 'smart' and 'stable genius' Donald Trump for 'forgetting' national anthem

Twitter trolls 'smart' and 'stable genius' Donald Trump for 'forgetting' national anthem

US President Donald Trump, never far from controversy, has caused another media stir with his rendition of the US national anthem during a college football game in Atlanta.

Critics took glee in pointing out how Trump had railed against football players failing to respect the national anthem.

"For those grousing about Trump seemingly not knowing the words to the national anthem: 1) He's hard of hearing and 2) down on the field, the sound bounces around a lot and it's hard to decipher the music", wrote one user. On Monday, he changed his Twitter banner to an image of him standing for the Anthem.

Video of the anthem shows Mr Trump getting off to a slow start.

People have accused the United States president of forgetting the words.

The Flag Code covers aspects of etiquette when the anthem is played in some detail. The league's commissioner, Roger Goodell, responded in a statement at the time, saying, "Divisive comments like these demonstrate an unfortunate lack of respect for the NFL, our great game and all of our players".

He said: "The NFL has decided that it will not force players to stand for the playing of our National Anthem".

President Trump is the oldest person to be elected president in US history, and his memory has often been called into question. Those in military uniform should salute.

And, again, I know a lot of people probably don't know the words to the national anthem and that's really not what's at stake here, or the issue.

However, what caught the world's attention was how the president miserably failed at singing the National Anthem.

At first, the president's detractors took to Twitter, gleefully suggesting that he didn't know the words to the song at all.

The national anthem became a burning issue of the USA politics in September after Trump's severe criticism of NFL players kneeling during the song as a way to protest against violence towards black Americans.
