Steve Bannon Out At Breitbart

Stephen Bannon, President Donald Trump's chief strategist, has faced criticism for his background overseeing Breitbart News, with Democrats touting numerous racially tinged and misogynistic headlines that went up under his watch.

On Sunday, Bannon retreated from those comments, saying Trump Jr. was a patriot and that he had labeled the actions of Trump's former campaign manager, Paul Manafort, as treasonous, not those of the president's son.

The committee is probing possible Russian interference in the 2016 presidential election and whether the Trump campaign was involved.

Once a trusted adviser to the president, Bannon enraged Trump after he was prominently quoted in "Fire and Fury" making disparaging remarks about Trump's children. One said Bannon was telling people as recently as Monday that he expected to stay on.

After Bannon left the White House in August, he remained on good terms with Trump.

Bannon's breakup with Breitbart is also costing him his daily show on the conservative talk station on satellite radio network SiriusXM. Bannon also suggested that Trump and his family would likely be brought down by a massive money laundering operation that Mueller and his team would soon uncover. He also reportedly represents White House Counsel Donald McGahn and former White House chief of staff Reince Priebus in relation to the Russian Federation investigation. Some West Wing aides in recent days had made little effort to hide their happiness that Bannon had suffered such a public rebuke.

Officials in previous White House administrations have expressed surprise that either man would keep notes, saying that past investigations have shown that those detailed accounts can serve as potentially damaging evidence. However, when asked if the demise of their relationship is permanent, the President wouldn't say.

He has trashed the book as "fake" and its author, Michael Wolff, as "totally discredited author" and has sought to defend himself as a "very stable genius". "I don't believe there's any way back for Mr Bannon at this point".
