Apple's $29 iPhone Battery Replacement Could Cost It iPhone Sales

Apple's $29 iPhone Battery Replacement Could Cost It iPhone Sales

It adds that the $29 price may generate $1.56 billion in terms of revenue, but Apple will lose around $10 billion due to potential loss of the 16 million iPhone units.

Barclays' analyst Mark Moskowitz estimated that a huge chunk - 77 percent of iPhone users - are among those eligible to upgrade the batteries inside their smartphones.

Last month, Apple admitted to slowing down older iPhones to combat weakening batteries.

The estimated $1.56 billion in revenue from battery replacement as iPhone owners (whether they would have upgraded or not) rush to take advantage of Apple's offer would help offset the lost iPhone sales.

Changing battery on your old iPhone can actually make a lot of difference to the overall performance of the device.

There are four reasons battery replacements could impact iPhone sales.

Apple is now thought to be facing at least 11 lawsuits over the matter, one of which (in France), holds the potential of criminal charges.

"Assuming that the data the battery-monitoring feature shares is helpful and that the battery-replacement program goes off without a hitch, Apple customers will be better informed and have better-functioning iPhones", according to Business Insider. Your selected store or service center could be out of stock of batteries or even if they do have stock the replacement could take anything between a few hours and a few days depending on the number of iPhones ahead of your device in the replacement queue.

A California iPhone user has filed a suit against Apple over allegations it failed to disclose it was purposely slowing down the performance of older iPhone models.

Moskowitz estimates around 519 million users are eligible for the battery offer, and that in the most likely scenario 10 percent take the $29 offer, and about 30 percent of those people decide not to buy a new iPhone this year.

2017 came to a close with Apple confirming a deliberate slowing-down of older iPhone models worldwide. Apple is giving users of these iPhone 6S devices a free battery replacement. Like a jalopy after a Jiffy Lube, a three-year-old iPhone with a fresh battery will not only run longer, chances are it will also run faster.

So, how could Apple have turned this boneheaded move into a positive thing? As you can see from the company's historical results, Apple tends to have great big happy Christmases and New Years. If you've noticed a drop in performance but can't be too sure, here are some ways to confirm whether or not it's slowing down because of a degrading battery.
