BMC's action after Mumbai Pub Fire, 100 illegal structures demolished

BMC's action after Mumbai Pub Fire, 100 illegal structures demolished

Both the managers were arrested earlier on the day, after a complaint was lodged by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) against two pubs - "1Above" and Mojo's Bistro - in connection with the midnight blaze of December 26, which claimed 14 lives. Terming the suspension of five civic official as an eyewash, Nirupam demanded a CBI or a judicial probe into the incident saying the municipal commissioner "was guilty of overlooking irregularities".

A civic official said illegal roofs had been pulled down at Skyview Café and Social in the Kamala Mills compound, where the tragedy occurred, and encroachments were demolished at Pranay, Fumes and Sheesha Sky Lounge in the nearby Raghuvanshi Mills compound. Following the fire at Kamala Mill Compound, BMC has come hard on illegal structures in the city.

The fire engulfed portions of three separate pubs which were adjacent to each other in the building. "That is why the Chief Minister stepped in and said if we find a similar kind of negligence, then officials will be booked too", she said.

"Unauthorised hotels and restaurants, not only in central Mumbai but also in the distant suburbs such as Malad and Mulund, are facing action", civic spokesperson Ram Dotonde said. The BMC ward officers and workers reached the spot with cranes to continue the demolition drive.

They said there were hindrances created on the emergency exit way.

NEW DELHI:The massive fire at a rooftop restaurant in Mumbai's Kamla Mills compound on Thursday night is likely to hit business in the area which has fast emerged as one of top media and entertainment and restaurant hubs of the city.

Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis also initiated an inquiry into this matter. The 1 a.m. fire quickly spread from the restaurant through a four-story building, said fire official Balkrishna Kadam.

Meanwhile, Mumbai Police has also issued a lookout notice against all the accused in this case.
