New England Patriots: Josh McDaniels should never get another head coach job

New England Patriots: Josh McDaniels should never get another head coach job

Indianapolis Colts general manager Chris Ballard spoke at a press conference on Wednesday in the aftermath of New England Patriots offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels spurning his franchise after initially agreeing to terms on their vacant head coaching job.

McDaniels' decision to ditch the Colts could pay off if, as speculated, he winds up as the successor to Bill Belichick. New England's defensive coordinator, Matt Patricia, left Belichick's staff a day after the Patriots' Super Bowl loss to become Detroit Lions coach.

"The Bears were certain of the uncertainty surrounding McDaniels", Jahns wrote. They executed two trades - the Dwayne Allen deal, and the Jacoby Brissett-Phillip Dorsett swap - and the move of McDaniels from Foxboro to Indy seemed to indicate the iciness from the previous regime was officially over. Then McDaniels' agent dumped him. Wednesday he put an emphasis on reassuring people that the Colts will be able to find the right head coach to replace Chuck Pagano, who was sacked in January after six seasons.

"The rivalry is back on", he said. If he had that information prior to the interview process, the way McDaniels approached interviews for head-coaching vacancies in January likely would have changed. "I want someone that's 100 percent committed to partnering with us and getting that work done".

Per ESPN, McDaniels and LaMonte have parted ways before, only to reunite, but it would presumably be tough for LaMonte to get back in the coach's good graces after criticizing him publicly. Two coaches who had been on his list - Texans defensive coordinator Mike Vrabel and Carolina defensive coordinator Steve Wilks - were hired by other teams. "But I know what we're being told right now, and we're confident going forward".

"We will not abandon them", Ballard said. The fact is, McDaniels proved once again that he's a awful leader and has no business being a head coach as he cared little about the people he burned while he continued to worry about No. 1 and only No. 1. "He doesn't need surgery", Ballard said.

Ballard was referring to the decade-long power struggle in the AFC between the Colts and Patriots when Peyton Manning and Tom Brady were both at the height of their powers.

But as Ballard stressed Wednesday, it's "about being right".
