Russian media: Plane with 71 aboard crashes near Moscow

Emergency services work at the location where a short-haul regional Antonov AN-148 plane crashed after taking off from Moscow's Domodedovo airport, outside Moscow, Russia, on Sunday.

Plane took off from Moscow's Domodedovo crashed in the Moscow region though it was meant to go to Orsk in the Orenburg region that borders Kazakhstan.

About 400 rescue workers have been mobilized to go to the crash site, where the search is expected to continue throughout the night.

Unnamed investigators told Russian website gazeta.ru that the pilot asked for emergency landing clearance after reporting some type of malfunction, according to the BBC.

The plane is understood to have been carrying 65 passengers and six crew.

Russian President Vladimir Putin "deep condolences to all those who lost relatives and friends in this disaster", his spokesman Dmitry Peskov said, according to Tass.

Russia's EMERCOM confirmed that rescuers which arrived at the crash site and found two bodies from the plane. According to media reports from Russian Federation, everyone on the plane died.

Russia's Investigative Committee have sent forensic teams to the crash site and the nation's Transportation Minister Maxim Sokolov is also said to be on his way to the area.

Andrei Odintsov, the mayor of Orsk, said six psychologists and four ambulances were working with relatives in the small airport.

The Russian jet was heading for Orsk, a city close to the Russia-Kazakhstan border.

Tass reported that it re-entered service for Saratov Airlines in February 2017.

The Russian-made AN-148 was seven-years-old and was bought by the airline one year ago.

In March 2016, all 62 passengers died when a FlyDubia jet crashed in bad weather during an aborted landing at Rostov-on-Don airport.
