South Africa's ANC to finalise talks on Zuma's future

South Africa's ANC to finalise talks on Zuma's future

Zuma has shrugged off a succession of scandals during his nine-year tenure as president, but pressure has been mounting on him to quit since Cyril Ramaphosa won control of the ruling party in December.

The uneasiness was heightened after the state of the nation address was for the first time postponed indefinitely last week.

"We leave this church well armed with the good blessings and prayer.so as the leadership of the ANC we have been well empowered as we move ahead. and as we manage this transition", Ramaphosa told reporters.

Ramaphosa, a 65-year-old lawyer and one of the richest black South Africans, has pledged to revive the flagging economy and clamp down on the corruption that has become synonymous with the Zuma era.

Zuma also faces another no-confidence vote against his leadership in parliament on February 22, brought by the ultra-left Economic Freedom Fighters party.

NEC is a key ANC decision-making body that has the power to instruct Zuma to resign.

He was addressing a crowd at the Grand Parade in Cape Town on Sunday, where the ANC held a rally to mark Nelson Mandela's centenary.

"As the leadership of the African National Congress, we are now engaged in discussions around the transition to a new administration and specifically to resolve the issues of the position of the President of the Republic".

"We should handle these discussions that are now under way with care and objective, ensuring that we put the interests of South Africans first", he said. He must pay the legal fees himself.

"We all know and anticipate that they are dealing with the current issue that is facing our country", Faiez Jacobs said.

He added: "The NEC will be meeting tomorrow to discuss this very matter and because our people want this matter to be finalised, the NEC will be doing precisely that. They need to close this thing early this week".

As other users commented on the picture, she responded and said "Kuzoshuba ungalwi nomuntu ongalwi nawe", which loosely translated means: "It's going get rough, don't fight with someone who is not fighting you".

"We remember the other Rivonia trialists - Walter Sisulu, Govan Mbeki, Ahmed Kathrada, Raymond Mhlaba, Elias Motsoaledi and Andrew Mlangeni - who were imprisoned alongside Madiba on Robben Island".

Ramaphosa also lauded the late ANC stalwart Albertina Sisulu, and Archbishop Emeritas Desmond Tutu for their roles as leading lights of the anti-apartheid struggle.

"It's her own personal view, as family.we still believe in the democratically elected leadership of the ANC under the leadership of Comrade Ramaphosa, whom we will all support to lead the country beyond", Zuma's son Edward Zuma told the SABC on Saturday.
