Mikaela Shiffrin's Olympics Debut Blown Off Schedule For NBC, Again

Mikaela Shiffrin's Olympics Debut Blown Off Schedule For NBC, Again

The Olympic women's slalom featuring EagleVail's Mikaela Shiffrin that was scheduled for Tuesday night (Denver time) has been postponed until Thursday night Denver time because of high winds at the alpine venue.

Men's downhill skiing was rescheduled for Wednesday, while women's giant slalom has been rescheduled for Thursday.

Tomorrow's event is a more favourable one for Taylor, and after Saturday's race she commented that much of her season's focus has been pointing towards it.

Sung Baik-you, spokesman for the local organizing committee POCOG, said the safety of the athletes was of the "utmost importance" in any discussions about re-scheduling.

"We are on day three, so, come back on day 14 and we can discuss it again", Adams told journalists when asked about pushing back the end date of the Games.

On Wednesday at Yongpyong, snow was falling and wind blowing this way and that.

The men's super-G, originally set for Thursday, has been switched to Friday.

After several delays in the schedule, the event was eventually called off as the hurricane-like winds made it impossible for the athletes, including the United States rising star Mikaela Shiffrin, to compete in such weather conditions, reports Efe.

As superstar compatriot Lindsey Vonn goes for gold in the women's super-G event, American skiing fans will be expecting a big performance from Shiffrin to supplement the nation's medal haul.

"It's shortened downhill course with the wind playing its role", Jansrud, one of the two athletes' representatives for the race, said after clocking the fourth fastest time. And the second thing is: Have a good, fair race.

- "Roll with punches" -Paul Kristofic, head coach of the USA women's team, said it was just a question of rolling with the punches.

Seth Rubinroit of NBC Olympics noted Shiffrin became the youngest Olympic slalom champion in Sochi and proceeded to sweep the ensuing slalom gold medals at the World Championships. Prior to these Games, there were some who suggested that Shiffrin could possibly be the first skier to medal in all five disciplines in the same Olympics.
