Delhi Police Catches Wanted Indian Mujahideen Terrorist Ariz Khan After 10 Years

Ariz Khan aka Junaid was arrested from the India-Nepal border after the special cell got a tip-off, said DCP Pramod Kumar Kushwaha of Delhi Police while speaking to the media.

Ariz Khan, 32-year-old bomb maker of terror group Indian Mujahideen was arrested from Nepal on February 13, informed a senior Police officer.

Junaid was one of the suspects present in the Batla House flat where, in a shootout, Delhi Police inspector Mohan Chand Sharma was killed as the raiding team gunned down the alleged terror ring leader, Atif Ameen. Ariz Khan was arrested by the Delhi Police's Special Cell.

Thirty people were killed and 100 were injured in the serial blasts at Karol Bagh, Connaught Place, Greater Kailash, the officer said. He was picked up by the police four days back and taken in for interrogation.

Khan was born in Uttar Pradesh's Azamgarh and studied there at different schools. Two militants were killed and two were arrested during the police action on September 19, 2008.

This is the second biggest seize for the Delhi Police in 2018 after it detained Abdul Subhan Qureshi from Ghazipur on 22 January who was also known as "India's Osama bin Laden".He was the main conspirator of the 2008 Gujarat serial blasts in which over 50 lives taken. They parted ways after which Khan came in contact with his uncle, living in Nepal, who helped him procure a fake Nepal citizenship card and passport. He was staying in Nepal after he fled the Batla House encounter site in Delhi and reached Nepal a month later. He returned to Nepal from Saudi Arabia in March 2017 and would occasionally travel to India.

It was in November 2007 that the members of the IM had sent an email to the top TV news channels five minutes before the blasts, claiming responsibility for the blasts, police said.
