'Lies and exaggerations' says Oxfam official accused of hosting sex parties

Oxfam said in a statement it had identified that "one of those dismissed by Oxfam as a result of the sexual misconduct case in Haiti" was "subsequently hired by Oxfam as a consultant In Ethiopia". First and foremost, our thoughts and prayers are with the victims of these atrocious acts.

In his first public response to last week's accusations of sex parties during his time running the charity's operations in Haiti after the 2010 quake, Roland Van Hauwermeiren was quoted as also telling De Standaard reporters who called at his apartment on the Belgian coast that his family had cut him off.

That men could be exploiting some of the most vulnerable people in the poorest country in the Americas, all the while being paid to advocate for their wellbeing, is a hypocrisy not lost on Josefine [a onetime Oxford employee who made an accusation against Van Hauwermeiren].

The crunch meeting - which will also include officials from the Home Office - comes after days of crisis meetings with charity bosses and regulators.

The investigation led to the dismissal of four employees and three others being allowed to resign.

Ten per cent of staff in some countries had been sexually assaulted by colleagues or witnessed abuse, she added.

The report to us stated there had been no allegations, or evidence, of any abuse of beneficiaries.

But last night it also emerged that Mr Van Hauwermeiren's successor was sacked amid allegations of "mismanagement" and "inappropriate behaviour".

The Times newspaper reported on Friday that some Oxfam staff paid for sex with prostitutes in Haiti after the country's 2010 quake.

A statement from the 86-year-old to The Telegraph read: "Archbishop Emeritus Desmond Tutu has supported Oxfam International's good work for many years, most recently as one of its global ambassadors". I will not be making any further comments on this.

Firth wrote: It is appalling to hear the news of the men that have abused the people they were there to help.

Also on Thursday, British International Development Secretary Penny Mordaunt and the director of the UK National Crime Agency discussed next steps regarding the Oxfam revelations.

Adams now serves as the Vice President of Missions for Cross Catholic Outreach (CCO).

"The Archbishop is deeply disappointed by allegations of immorality and possible criminality involving humanitarian workers linked to the charity".

"Even though reports of abuse have steadily increased, MSF is aware that abuse goes under-reported", the charity said.

Well, it turns out some aid workers have been sexually abusing the disadvantaged in Haiti - and elsewhere - by sleeping with prostitutes, some of whom may have been underage.
