Dolphins' Jarvis Landry signs franchise tender for $15.9 million

Dolphins' Jarvis Landry signs franchise tender for $15.9 million

He's more of a possession receiver than a big play waiting to happen, but that's exactly what Cleveland needs: A player who can move the chains.

Miami Dolphins wide receiver Jarvis Landry signed his franchise tender on Thursday, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.

Landry was a 2014 second-round draft pick, and has averaged over 1,000 receiving yards in his first four seasons in the league.

Exact terms of the deal have yet to be disclosed.

It appears the Miami Dolphins finally have made a decision regarding Jarvis Landry.

No one really knows what the exact contract numbers will look like for the three-time Pro Bowl wide receiver. He was by far the highest-profile Dolphins player eligible for free agency, and perhaps the best player on an offense that sputtered with quarterback Jay Cutler. 7 in the National Football League and 29 more than any player on the Browns.

Landry now heads to a team that has won one game in the last two seasons and went 0-16 in 2017.

According to the Miami Herald's Armando Salguero, Landry's agent is working on a long-term deal with the Browns which will be signed after March 14th. The Browns surely will address their quarterback room via free agency and/or the draft, but they first intend to give Landry the type of multi-year contract he'd always been seeking in Miami, per Schefter.

Cleveland still needs to decide what to do with Josh Gordon as well.

No Browns wide receiver recorded more than 27 receptions, 357 yards, or two touchdowns during the 2017 regular season. With so much extra money, Cleveland can afford to cave into whatever financial demands Landry has.
